Touchdown Cebu! I’m here at Cebu for a vacation (sort of, cause I’m still working, boo!) and of course for Sinulog Festival. For the first night, we dine at Zubuchon which is walking distance from our hotel. Technically, it is located just outside our hotel. It is my 2nd time in Cebu but this is my first time dining in here.
Zubuchon Escario Branch
ZUBUCHON is coined from the words ZUBU (Cebu’s name in old Spanish maps) and LECHON.
Inside, you can see through the glass window their chef busy preparing the food from their kitchen and written on the glass is a phrase: “Best Pig-Ever” – Anthony Bourdain.
Anthony Michael “Tony” Bourdain (born June 25, 1956) is an American chef, author, and television personality. He is well known for his 2000 book Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly, and is the host of Travel Channel’s culinary and cultural adventure programs Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations and The Layover.
Zubuchon merchandises are also being displayed for purchase in a table upon entering their restaurant. Prices for chicharon is P120 for 100g and P200 for 200g. These chicharons are nice for “pasalubong”.
They also have a black board where their specialties and recommended orders are listed. It helps customers by guiding them what to order, especially for foreigners and first timers.
Here’s what we ordered:
Five Pork Fried Rice - P220
Fried Rice with Zubuchon, tampalen, chicharon, lard, and Zubuchon drippings flavored with shrimp paste and green mango. Looks like a bagoong rice with lots of pork but with the addition of green mango, it gives a right amount of sour taste to the rice that I really enjoyed eating.
Half Kilo Zubuchon (Small) - P280
For a half kilo lechon, P280 is really cheap. I can’t find half kilo of lechon in Manila that is this tasty and cheap. Never dine at Zubuchon without ordering this.
Adobong Kangkong with Chicharon - P100
Trying to be healthy and trying to have a balanced diet (haha) by ordering vegetable. Not like any other ordinary adobong kangkong with the presence of chicharon and the sauce of this dish is nice to be poured in the rice.
Kamias Shake - P95
Zubuchon’s best seller and original creation in Cebu. A combination of sweet and sour taste to balance the richness of lechon.
When visiting Cebu, Zubuchon is one of the must-dine restaurant. Their lechon is so tasty and finishing off with a Kamias shake is really delicious.
